The Carrefour group has always made recruiting young people from the local community a priority. In France, the banner is one of the country's leading work/study recruiters – it hired 3,000 new employees on professional training contracts and apprenticeships in 2012.
Other major initiatives in 2012 include the signing of a Charter committing the Group to providing young people with employment as part of work/study programmes with the Ministry for Apprenticeship and Professional training; the sponsorship of more than 150 young people in partnership with the “Nos quartiers ont du talent” (Talent in our neighbourhood) association; collection of 700 applications at the youth employment forum.
Other countries have also embarked on programmes to help young people get onto the job market, such as Brazil and its "Young Apprentices" programme which provided 1,400 people with training for positions at the store.
