Palm oil: Carrefour's commitments
Carrefour’s palm oil procurement policy is underpinned by production criteria, including the RSPO standard and additional requirements to do with protecting forests and peat bogs. Carrefour works closely alongside suppliers, NGOs, scientists and refiners on speeding up the implementation of criteria in addition to those recommended by the RSPO. Carrefour replaces palm oil with a different oil in its controlled production products when doing so improves their nutritional properties.
Carrefour has supported the RSPO (Roundtable on sustainable Palm oil) since 2006.
Since 2015, 100% of the palm oil used in Carrefour-brand products has come from supply lines supported by the RSPO. In addition to this certification, 50 Carrefour groceries are from supply lines which adhere to sustainability criteria that are even more stringent – such as ones to do with preserving the planet's carbon-rich peat bogs and natural forests.
Carrefour is continuing with its initiative and is working in France on improving the traceability of palm oil used in Carrefour products up to the refiner.
