Since 2010, Carrefour’s policy has been to replace palm oil in its own-brand products when this improves the product’s nutritional quality. The Group intends to ensure that by 2020 the palm oil contained in Carrefour-brand products that still require it will not in any way contribute to deforestation. The Group has determined supply criteria for its suppliers accordingly.
Palm oil a programme of substitution and certification!
Soy: neither deforestation or GMO
Carrefour has set itself the goal of reducing the negative impact on ecosystems of the soy in its supply chain by 2020. The actions implemented to achieve this goal are based on collaboration, using sustainable livestock feed and developing alternatives to animal proteins.
Priority wood and paper products
Carrefour has set itself two goals regarding supplies of products made from wood or wood fibres (including own-brand writing paper, furniture, wooden articles and charcoal):
ensuring that all of the Group’s sales and marketing publications have FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) certification or are made from recycled fibres; achieving 100% compliance with our Sustainable Forests policy by 2020 in 10 priority product categories. These 10 priority product categories are defined as those using the largest volumes of wood and paper: toilet paper, printing paper and garden furniture, for example.
Brazilian beef
Brazilian beef production is a major factor in a number of social issues, including deforestation, ecosystem conservation and respect for human rights.
Sustainable cocoa
Carrefour’s aim is for all of its own-brand chocolate bars to be sustainable and traceable from the farmer to the consumer. It sees this as the best means of combatting deforestation, ensuring that no child labour is used on cocoa plantations and securing a better remunaration for the farmers.
