Carrefour encourages the ongoing involvement of its employees, stores, warehouses and head offices, all of which engage daily in solidarity initiatives. Employees and customers are at the heart of the community social action conducted by Carrefour.
Among the initiatives implemented, the stores organise collections of donations from their customers for food banks or recognised charitable organisations such as Emmaüs-LeRelais in France.
Alongside these donation campaigns, the stores and warehouses work to combat food waste. For example, in Brazil, fresh products whose consumption date is getting near are removed from the shelves and given to partner Food Banks (without breaking the cold chain) which then distribute them among their beneficiaries.
All integrated French hypermarkets and supermarkets and all Polish hypermarkets have already signed an agreement with food aid associations to have their unsold stock distributed in this way.
