After toys, we shifted the focus of our zero plastic challenge to school supplies and stationery. So for September 2020, Carrefour has done away with all single-use plastics in its Carrefour-brand writing products and school accessories, such as ballpoint pens, felt tip pens, rulers, adhesive sticks and scissors. The plastic has all been replaced by 100% recyclable cardboard.
Our drive to get rid of plastic now includes all store sections. For gardening, clothing, cooking implements and products for the home, many Carrefour products are now sold without any superfluous packaging. The plastic protection for our lightbulbs has now been removed, while our hangers are now sold with simple paperboard bases.
The Zero plastic challenge is a multi-faceted long-term endeavour. We take a look at phasing out packaging on non-food products with hundreds of school supplies, toys and lightbulbs. Carrefour has undertaken to make significant reductions in the amount of plastic used with the packaging of all these items.
